It is 20 years after the Earth was destroyed and the survivors of Nuclear winter are left stuck behind walls of in imaginable power. Their jailers, zookeepers, or murders are aliens that are so different from Humanity that communication is very difficult.

So the humans stuck behind the walls, are left to interpret the actions of their "saviors" or "murders" based on their own beliefs. Gwynwood, PA is one such surviving town. It residents a mixture of 1 Jew, 1 catholic, and a large number of (I think Mennonites) have a unique view of their keepers. Isabel, is 20 years old, and has abandoned G-d and only want to fight for "freedom" this book explores what freedom is, and does it very well.

Children fight for freedom all the time from their parents, but adults know that absolute freedom can have terrible consequences.
