If Cabot had not failed to return from his next voyage he would be as well known as Columbus is today. This interesting book was written to coincide with the 500th anniversary of Cabot's discovery to (now) NOva Soctia, in 1497, when he claimed the land for Britain. A modern crew takes the voyage in a replica ship and combines history with the real thing. There's lots of pix and discussion of every aspect of the original and the repeat voyage: what was known about crossing the Atlantic, shipbuilding lore, hardships endured. Lots of interesting ancient maps, modern photos and old paintings.
