This book is a perfect metaphor for the subject - it was a long and strange read, brutal at times, easy to get lost along the way but with the promise of gold at every turn to keep you going. Unfortunately, like most of the explorers he speaks of, I never found El Dorado in this one. I highly recommend "Confederates in the Attic" over this one.
