I have been neglectfully not reviewing the books I've been reading to the kids at bedtime, as most of them I've read before in my childhood (I've even neglected to count most of them in my yearly total), but I need this review for Play Book Tag on Shelfari. About a year after the events of Prince Caspian, Edmund and Lucy, along with their obnoxious cousin Eustace, are magically whisked back into Narnia via a picture of a sailing ship in their aunt and uncle's house. The ship is King Caspian's "Dawn Treader"; for Caspian it is 3 years since the Pevensies' last visit, and they are on a quest to find the 7 Narnian lords who were encouraged by his usurping uncle Miraz to sail to the east and never heard from again. This is my second favorite book of the series and it was fun to go through the adventure once again with the old crew, particularly Reepicheep the gallant and daring mouse. I always enjoyed Eustace's comeuppance which turned him from an unpleasant (though amusing) character to a quite tolerable one. I wasn't too sure how well the kids were listening or enjoying the story, but at the end my son really surprised me by bursting into tears at Reepicheep's fate. It's nice to be able to share some of the best memories of my childhood with my own kids.

The world of wicked dragons and magic spells, where the very best is brought out of even the worst people where anything can happen (and most often does)... and where the adventure begins.

Another great book in a great series. This book has always been my favorite in the series. It is full of wonderful adventures, interesting people and a cast of marvelous characters. This story is about King Caspian going in search of the seven lords, whom his uncle Miraz, sent on a long voyage to the east and they never came back. King Caspian, Reepicheep, the rat king, Edmond, Lucy, their cousin, Eustace and others are taking a voyage in the ship, Dawn Treader, aptly named because it is heading east into the sun. They land on islands some full of bad magic and others that are friendly, the islands are a part of Narnia but have been forgotten. During their voyage they encounter slave traders, dragons, stars that have become humans and strange enchantments. A must read for children as well as adults.
