I have been neglectfully not reviewing the books I've been reading to the kids at bedtime, as most of them I've read before in my childhood (I've even neglected to count most of them in my yearly total), but I need this review for Play Book Tag on Shelfari. About a year after the events of Prince Caspian, Edmund and Lucy, along with their obnoxious cousin Eustace, are magically whisked back into Narnia via a picture of a sailing ship in their aunt and uncle's house. The ship is King Caspian's "Dawn Treader"; for Caspian it is 3 years since the Pevensies' last visit, and they are on a quest to find the 7 Narnian lords who were encouraged by his usurping uncle Miraz to sail to the east and never heard from again. This is my second favorite book of the series and it was fun to go through the adventure once again with the old crew, particularly Reepicheep the gallant and daring mouse. I always enjoyed Eustace's comeuppance which turned him from an unpleasant (though amusing) character to a quite tolerable one. I wasn't too sure how well the kids were listening or enjoying the story, but at the end my son really surprised me by bursting into tears at Reepicheep's fate. It's nice to be able to share some of the best memories of my childhood with my own kids.
