I did pick this book because the first line, "'You ever killed anything?' Roy asked," intrigued me. I should have predicted the violent behavior of this fourteen-years-old boy. What I didn't anticipate was violence towards animal and small children. (Okay, I partly knew about "the cat incident" from his podcast, but I didn't know it was from this book.) It was a funny combination though. The main characters are Colin and Roy, who are fourteen, so their thoughts and actions are sometime very simple. They could be a little slow and boring sometimes. Yet, there are these violent scenes. Technically, those were told as the past events, but they disturbed me a bit. (Especially where "popper" came from...) Many of us unfortunately get used to watch some violent scenes from movies, but those movies hardly include violence towards animals and children. Therefore, we are not used to watch/imagine/read such scenes. I think that's why I was disturbed by those violence more than the one towards adults.

It was a quite page-tuner, but future readers should be warned that there are short violent scenes I mentioned. If you don't want to read such scenes, just skip this book.

I started this on the weekend before thanksgiving, I read it in two days! It was a great, book. Very interesting from stat to finish about these 2 boys. Almost reminded me of 2 I grew up with. But if like mystery mixed with intrigue some scary, a little puppy love in the mix, Red it! Excellent read.
