This is a compilation of stories written around 1900, It was to have been a third book of stories but was cancelled by her publisher. Some were published separately during her lifetime, others not until as late as 1969 as part of her complete works. Unlike most of her prior work that was set in Louisiana Creole country, many of these stories have no established locale. To get the true feeling of her work one must peruse a wide variety of her stories, a beginning for which I would suggest her most renowned work: âThe Awakening.â
