I enjoy cozy mysteries rather than suspense thrillers. I thought it was a bit too creepy. Burns created a macabre plot line for this story. The characters are subtly weird and evil. I had a inkling of what was going to happen, so that wasn't a surprise to me. The setting is perfect for the story line.

If you like Dean Koontz or Stephen King, you will enjoy this book. I think this is her only novel right now. She writes with great sentence structure and turns everyday language into weird images. Folks love that in a good suspense story.

This book is a mess just a big mess!

One of the 'remarks' on the back of the says it's a nail-biter but NOT! It is a mish mash of confusing boring crap

The writing style is one I hate, before/after, then/now etc. but this one doesn't even give you a heads up which one you are reading so as you are reading you are suddenly reading something else and you have to remember which time frame you are in, just confusing and messy writing

You can't like any of this family and they are creepy but the story just does not flow very good and by the time it gets to the nail-biter part (I guess you can call it that) you probably won't care if you can stick with it long enough, I had to skip and skim a lot just to get to that part then I finished it fast
