I read this thinking my 17 yo daughter might get into mysteries if she read it......but wasn't my favorite so won't share with her.
Seems to be written for a younger population than I thought from its marketing. I would say 6-8th graders would enjoy this first book in the series.
The science might turn off kids who aren't into that subject, but science geeks should really take to this series.
The characters attend a private, exclusive high school in Charleston, though the 4 members in the pack of 'virals' are much less wealthy than most of their classmates. All but one of their parents work for the university that runs a secure lab on Loggerhead island. The father of the 4th pack member runs the ferry that gets people to and from work on the island. They all live on nearby Morris Island so are isolated from their classmates who live on the mainland, another reason for them to be 'outcasts'.
Tori leads the pack and is the only girl. She is the great niece of Temperance Brennan so has 'inherited' her genius and love for science. Kids who like the TV series "Bones" should enjoy this book series too.
