Haunting and heartbreaking. From the first to last page it was as if I could hear the music play, and feel the raw emotion packed into these pages. By far one of my favorites of Anne Rice and one I keep so that I can read it again.

I'll never forget hearing the music of this novel running through my head as I read. Mesmerizing.
This is a seemingly semi auto-biographical journey for the author through pain, death, loss, love, and redemption. The author's emotions are very close to the surface.
This book was kind of weird. Pretty good though. Read it so long ago I can't remember much about the story but I remember thinking it was really odd and entertaining enough.
The book ('Violin' by Anne Rice) is set in numerous places, including Vienna, New Orleans (which is typical of Rice's novels) and Rio de Janeiro. The novel tells the story of three people: a young woman yearning to become a musician, a ghostly violinist (hence the title), and the ghost of Beethoven.
While I must say I am a big fan of this author I am disappointed to say that in all the thousands of books I have read this is the worst by far, not just from this author but of anything I have ever read. There is no plot. There are no characters that are enjoyable or likeable. There isn't even a storyline here to follow. No moral, no point, no anything. This is a horrible book and I strongly recommend that if your reading this, don't read the book.
The amazing amount of history that you learn in one of Anne Rice's books is wonderful. She is a master of details that make a book and it's setting come alive. This story is great.

Never could quite get into this Anne Rice novel.
Even though this book is not one of Rice's famous vampire stories, it's still as elegantly written and just as haunting in a heartbroken way. This novel will appeal even to those who are not fans of the supernatural because of the compelling human angst aspect of the story.
May be a bit disturbing to some, but worth reading for the beauty of the writing.

This book is an excellent example of Anne Rice's writing. It's a beautiful story!
I did not like this book. Perhaps it is my mood, but I found the perspective of the ghost very annoying. After 28 pages I gave it up.
I should also mention this is the first Anne Rice book I attempted to read and somewhat surprised that I had this reaction to it.

This Anne Rice book is very good and hard to put down.
A great ghost story. An emotionally wounded woman is approached by a ghost and haunted perhaps because of her emotional instability. Interesting.

I lOVE Anne Rice but I just couldn't get into this one
Absolutely, Positively LOVE this book! A book of love, loss, spirits, and music, a masterpiece.
I WAS BORN IN NEW ORLEANS AND LIVED THERE FOR MANY YEARS. THE PLACES THAT ANN RICE AND ALSO SHERRILYN KENYON'S DARK HUNTERS WRITE ABOUT, I HAVE SEEN AND BEEN THERE. SO YOU GET NOT ONLY VAMPIRES, GHOSTS, BELIEVE IT OR NOT "WEREWOLVES - BAYOU HISTORY" , THE HISTORY OF THE REAL NEW ORLEANS. THESE AUTHORS ARE BOTH THE BEST WHEN IT COMES TO MY HOME TOWN, THE PLACE OF MY HEART. READ AND ENJOY, I DID. FOR THE RECORD, THEY STILL DO PRACTICE "VOO DOO" IN AND AROUND NEW ORLEANS. BELIEVE THAT ALSO.
