The most enjoyable parts of this book are the descriptions of Washington DC. I can't put my finger on it, but this series has gone flat for me. There has not been a new character introduced in some time (besides whomever gets killed), but no one new to the scene, no one new to get to know, or figure out. Since we know all the peripheral characters so well, there's no questioning their motives, trying to deduce what they're really saying, etc, it's just not fun. I like to see a new person come around, stick around for a couple of books, you get to know them, like them (or not, LOL), and then they surprise you by being involved in the crime in some way, etc. But, that doesn't happen here. The brand new people are killed off right away, or committed the crime and they go off to jail.
There's also the "romance" between Quinn and Lucy. I'm not a big fan of romance in my mysteries, but I also don't mind a bit of romantic complications. I don't think all romances have to be neat and tidy - meet, fall in love, get a house with a white picket fence, 2 kids and a dog - that sort of stuff, not necessary. A little miscommunication, sexual tension, that's alright, but this is just weird. Lucy allows Quinn to treat her poorly, then come over for a booty call, leaving without even sharing a cup of coffee in the morning. He's moody, insensitive, selfish, and a real distraction to the book. I wanted to tell Lucy, "have some respect for yourself, don't sleep with this guy, he just wants a piece of ass, really, you deserve better". Mind you, I'm not a prude, and two consenting adults having sex is, well, two consenting adults having sex, but I don't like to witness a girl with no self esteem be a regular booty call for a jerk.
I don't know if there's another book coming, in this series, but if there is, I will need to decide if I'll keep going with this series or not....don't know right now.

Eleanor T. (longhornchick) reviewed The Viognier Vendetta (Wine Country, Bk 5) on + 4 more book reviews
Another great book from Ellen Crosby. I love learning about wines and the processes behind making them. This book is similar to the new Dan Brown Book in that you learn about the nation's capital and its layout.
