The Thoene's are a great writing team. This is the beginning of the second series "The Zion Covenant". The story line is fiction but so detailed you are reading a movie. The research shines through with detailed historical accuacy. This is a must read if you are interested in historical/fiction. DG

Predating the events of The Zion Chronicles Series, Vienna Prelude opens in a pre-World War II Austria. Elisa Lindheim, a violinist with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, is of Jewish heritage but has adopted an Aryan stage name. Thus she is able to travel and play in Germany even though a 1935 law forbade Jewish musicians to do so. Her dear friend Leah, a cellist already introduced to Theone readers in A Daughter of Zion, and her husband Shimon must escape Austria or perish in the coming Holocaust. John Murphy, a reporter for the New York Times in Berlin and Austria, becomes linked with English politicians in a plan to overthrow Hitler. Elisa and John's mutual connections with the Jewish Underground entangle them in a web of intrigue, danger, and consiricy that neither could have known.

A story about Nazi Germany before World War Two. It is full of historical fact and great storytelling combined. I love these books. In fact, the only reason I am getting rid of this one is because I have two of them!

Historical fiction at its best, set in pre-World War II Austria. Intrigue, danger, and conspiracy in this novel.

Although these books are fiction, I know that the authors research their subjects carefully. These books are suspenseful, heartwarming, heartbreaking... a whole gamut of emotions. I became much more interested in history as a result of reading these books. These books were some of the first Christian fiction I ever read. I could not put them down. I have read all of these and all of the "Zion Chronicles" as well as some of the other books they have written. I highly recommend these books or any of their other books! (make sure you read this series in the order written though!)

I read this book years ago, but I still remember how much I enjoyed it! I immediately went out and got the next book in the series and voraciously read one after another until I finished the whole series! I rank it as one of my favorite series! Highly recommend!
