An epic journey of sudden adventure, daring romance, and a fierce will to survive.

Pretty young American governess Victoria Lang finds herself shipwrecked and stranded on the perilous African coast with an English family, a few sailors, and an injured officer. On the eve of the Boer War, with an African tribe in open revolt and the nearest settlement hundreds of miles away, Africa is hostile territory indeed.

Vicky is the only one who can lead the battered survivors through the Sahara to safety. But the scorching desert is just the first step of a terrifying voyage that will take them into the dens of white slavers, before the Ashanti king with his horrifying skull fetishes, and through the steaming, swampy rain forest infested with crocodiles.

Danger is always near and death is never far, as Vicky begins an adventure - and romance - she will never forget.
