Lady Eleanor Swift inherits from her uncle, who seemed not to care much for her while he was alive. So, Eleanor made her place in the world (we are constantly reminded of this by the author, unfortunately). This story's most vigorous relationship is between Clifford (the butler) and Eleanor. Both characters grew on the reader once the author stopped chattering about how excellent Eleanor was. The author was the biggest hindrance to the story. And this certainly was NOT "an absolutely gripping cozy murder mystery."
Generally, the author has a way with clever and witty dialogue. But her backstory on Eleanor was ridiculous and off-putting. I was stunned that the author labeled the British police to be stupid. I might try a different story by this author, but not in this series.
Lady Eleanor Swift Mystery â Total of 11
** 1. A Very English Murder (2020)
2. Death at the Dance (2020)
3. A Witness to Murder (2020)
