I wasn't sure that I liked this book at first but then I couldn't put it down. Gaitskill's writing style is somewhat disjointed, but the story is very clear. The characters aren't very likeable people, but in some way you actually end up rooting for them. Definitely worth reading, especially if you live or have lived in Manhattan and have any experience with models and a wild lifestyle...

This is a well-written but often disjointed. The characters are interesting but dark but the premise is good with an intense story.
Not a quick read for me.

Excellent contemporary literary novel, set in the fashion world of 1980s New York. Finalist for the National Book Award. Excellent choice for book groups, or for anyone who just loves a good read.
When this book first arrived i had just finished another book quite different in style and content. Now I just finished reading Veronica and I really enjoyed it. I feel this is a story of Allisons' life and the lives of her family and friends. A story of the angst of youth and eventually the story of youth and beauty and then the loss of these very precious commodities. Yes indeed, I very much enjoyed it. I urge anyone who attempted to read it and was put off early in to give it another try and after the first 30 pages or so one may enjoy Veronica as much as I did.
Found it a little strange, very intersting style of writing. Strong language.
