I like Megan, too...but I wish I hadn't read it at all! Cries too much?! Whines, mopes, bitches...insecure, dysfunctional, occasionally intelligent (except, apparently, with ALL men, including her brother), wimpy, nightly begging a man to take her back (texting) because...she loves him...and they would obviously live happily ever after if only he loved her.
Honestly, I'm on pg 132 & I'm considering peeing on it & burying it in the yard!
I will update if I finish...for now an extra star for a couple of interesting characters (no, her boss is creeping me out) & intelligent moments.
Okay, redemption might be on pg 176 "Sexual preferences are not a disease. If you want to know, it started watching Wonder Woman, okay? She had those really cool lassos, and she always tied up the cute boys." lol I think that gets another 1/2*
So, second 1/2 was a decent Hart read w/good ending. It went from UGH to HUH, 1.5*-3* And boss/Alex is from the other books?! (Sorry, I read them many years ago)...And turned out to be a friend after all...instead of sneakingly trying to get in her pants...seriously? I think 2 different people wrote this book!
And "Vanilla" sucks as a title.

I have a love/hate relationship with Megan Hart books. Some I enjoy, while some I do not. This particular one left a bad taste in my mouth. I was only able to get through about half of the book before I had to put it down, and I had to force myself just to read that far. For some reason I could never seem to care what happened next. I truly got bored with Elise's obsession with trying to keep in touch with her ex. I felt like I was poking my eyes out with a stick each time she kept going back to message him. The dry and slow story line left me bored really quick, but I'm not giving up on Megan Hart books just yet. I was just hoping for more from this one.

"Sometimes love takes you by the hand and leads you to run through fields of flowers while butterflies weave you a dress out of rainbows. Other times, love takes you by the throat and chokes you until all you see is the bright, sharp trail of shooting stars right before everything turns to black. The problem is, you can never tell in advance which way the story ends, not until you're too far into it, and you have no choice but to keep turning the pages. "

I love Megan Hart. I love the way she writes. The way she doesn't sugarcoat any of the stories she tells.

The heroine, Elise, is a very sexual character. She has certain tastes that most of us aren't used to but she enjoys. Some of the things she enjoys I would never think about doing. Yeah, it's out there!

All in all I thought this was a good read. In my opinion Elise cried too much. It was a little bit of a put off for me but other than that, I enjoyed the story. The other characters were great as well. I wish I hadn't waited so long to read it.
