I read paranormal and fantasy books for escapism and for the romance but I got more of the "real world" in this one. I'm finding that more and more authors are adding harsh realities to some of my favorite series so I may have to step away from those books. I don't like it when bad things happen because it just ruins my happy, relaxed mood in which I know everything always will work out.

If you're caught up on this series, including the last ebook novella, you know that Nyx gets her heart broken. I really wanted to just stop reading after that. I didn't even read the novella because I didn't want to deal with the breakup issue. This book had the usual funny interactions that I love between Olivia and Nyx, along with other characters. Nyx is finding another love however I'm not feeling it as much as I did with Adam.

This book had my heart racing throughout the chapters. When I had to put it down for some reason I actually dreaded picking it up to continue because I was so nervous as the story progressed. Volod, the vampire, is back with a vengeance and a wonderfully diabolical plan which is working so very well. There's a war between the vampire and the trackers with paranormals caught in the middle.

After finishing the book, I get the impression that it's the end of the series however the author can also easily continue it. Don't read the book for romance, read it because you enjoy intrigue and action. Also realize that during a war, not everybody walks off into the sunset, so prepare yourselves.
