This was a fast read for me, but it was great! Suitable for teenagers and pre-teens, but well enough written it made an enjoyable read for an adult too! In fact, I'm completely hooked on it and am out to get the rest of the series. Originally, I was informed about this series from a friend who was talking to me about books that were appropriate enough for the younger crowd to read. My kid is really bright and finding books that are interesting enough to keep attention while taking more than 20 minutes to read are a bit of a problem to find around here. We've gone through the Chronicles of Narnia series (the one book compilation), and all of the Legacy series (Eragon for the rest of us), etc. This book is a true romance and so more aimed at the females, but after much skepticism, my son is going to give it a try this weekend...that and it's the only unread "mom" approved book left in the house. Truth be told, I read it first to make sure it was okay and I'm getting the rest of the books because frankly...I can't wait to see how it all turns out! lol. Definitely a light read, but a very, very good one.

I haven't read this myself, but my 15 year old daughter did. She read this only because she needed a book for quiet time in class. She HATES reading. This book sucked her right in --- pun definitely intended. Because she loved this book so much, she has started the 2nd in the series. Yay! My daughter's finally a reader!!! Thanks Ellen Schreiber.

I read this book at the recommendation of a friend with tween daughters. She likes to read what her children are reading and I think that is a great thing. I do not have tween daughters yet though so I do not need to waste my time on juvenille literature. This was really juvenille. I think it would reach the audience that it is intended for, that is just not me. I am sure I will be in my friend's position at some point. Until that time, I will not be reading any more of this series.

When you pick up a teen book about vampires these days, your cautious about the quality of its writing.
However, this book is one of the great ones.
Its a fluffy vampire romance that'll make you laugh just as much as it'll leave you hanging at the edge of your seat.
It's hero's are well written and its villains are pretty cool, exactly what one would want in a young adult book =D
I recommend it to anyone who like's their books to have a little bite to em >3

I am in LOVE with this series. :) I'm so glad Ellen Schreiber has made so many of them, because I didn't want it to end so soon! There's always something at the end of the book (at least of the first two I've read so far) that keeps you coming back and the plot just twists into things that didn't cross your mind. Just when you thought it was the happily ever after.
I've heard that a lot of people are comparing it to Twilight, saying that there are some similarities. But honestly, it is completely different in so many ways. IMHO- you can't compare it, and I think it's a far better story with characters who are just more believable. The love that they share isn't skin -or blood- deep.

This book was exeptionally great. I'm a goth, like Raven, the main character, so it was easy to realate an understand her feelings and situations as an outcast. I reccomend this book to any goths who want inspiration, or girls that love vampires. It is short and an easy young adult read.

This book was cute and funny!!!! I read it in one sitting. It showed you that you always dont have to be the same as everyone and there is a suprise in each person. I wanted to know what happens next. It leaves you wanting more!

I disliked this book. While I am an avid fan of goth culture and novels with a gothic overtone, this author tried much too hard to create that atmosphere in her book, and for all intents and purposes ruined it. The story itself is cliche ridden, and the author's choice of descriptive words are more or less limited to describing everything as "goth". Literally. Despite those flaws, I forced myself to finish this book (though why I am still not certain). In short, unless what I've described sounds like your preferred cup of tea, don't waste your time.

A very easy read and read it in less than a day. A little immature in spots but catchy story line. I started reading the second book right away.

I loved this book! The heroine is witty, quirky and lovable, and the writing style breezy, but the book ended too soon! Can't wait to read book # 2.

I love this book. The third time I picked it up to read in it I couldnt put it down and finished it. The story is aimed at older teenagers and young adults. Its the start of a love story between goth girl Raven and her one true love (who just happens to be a vampire). Its cute and its funny. If you enjoy a lighter hearted vampire story you wont be able to put this book down. Im very much looking forward to reading the rest of this series. I give Vampire Kisses five stars!

Sixteen-year-old Raven Madison started her obsession with the dark side in kindergarten. While the teacher was asking her young students what they wanted to be when they grew up and getting the typical responses of nurse, fire fighter, and football player, young Raven answered the question the only way she knew how--she wanted to grow up to be a vampire.

Raven's parents, Sarah and Paul, were typical hippies who spent their early years together waxing poetic about love and the music of the Grateful Dead. When Raven came along, they became slightly less hippie, in that they moved into an apartment instead of living in their Volkswagon van. Raven's first years were spent surrounded by lava lamps and glow-in-the-dark posters, with her parents playing games with her, eating junk food, and watching old horror films on the small black and white television. All of that changed, though, when two things happened--her mother dared to give birth to a brother, endearingly termed Nerd Boy, and they forced her to go to school, every day.

Now sixteen, Raven is still the outcast that she found herself to be when she proclaimed her life's ambition was to be a vampire. Now the only goth girl in a town dubbed Dullsville, Raven is still a social outcast who enjoys horror movies, black lipstick, and pushing her parents to the edge. Raven has no real friends except for Becky, a timid farm girl who lives on the wrong side of the tracks. None, that is, until the Sterling family moves into the dark, abandoned mansion sitting on top of Benson Hill.

Suddenly the whole town is talking about the mysterious Sterlings, especially the teenage son, Alexander. It's said he hangs out in the cemetery at night, that he's brought bats to town, that he's pale and is never seen outside during the daytime. Could Alexander be a real, live vampire? If so, he could be Raven's ticket out of this loser town. But does she really want to leave her family and real life behind to spend her days sleeping in a coffin? Or is all the hype just that--the ramblings and crazy speculation of a town who can't stand for anyone to be different?

As Raven gets closer to Alexander, she realizes that being a vampire might not matter so much as being loved for who she is. As she deals with the small-minded people in her town, she just might find out that she's not so different from the residents of Dullsville as she thought she was.

VAMPIRE KISSES is a good start to this entertaining vampire series by Ellen Schreiber. Although there are parts that appear too shallow for Raven's character, and way too many exclamation points for my taste, I still recommend the story, and look forward to reading the next book in the series, KISSING COFFINS.

Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. It grabbed my attention right away and I had to finish it the same day. It is better than most YA books I've read. I really like the main character and can't wait to get the next book in the series. Definitely worth the read if you enjoy vampire books!

My Grade: B+

This is a surprisingly great read, and a quick one as well. I was interested in the story almost immediately and found all of the characters wonderfully three dimensional.
I loved the way the characters grew and how the main characters point of reference seemed to open up as the story went on.

I had to remind myself often though, through out the book that this was from the point of view of a 16 year old girl. I found myself wondering "Why is she thinking like that?" but, once I was back in her shoes, the writing was much more clear to me.

I plan on reading the rest of this series, and would have even if it hadn't have had a great surprise ending!

I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy Young Adult and Paranormal books.

I absolutely loved this book. It's the first in the series and fantastic. It's young adult and it's probably for the younger version of young adults however, if you don't care about any of that, it's fantastic! The main character is funny and the book is a quick read.

what a great beginning to a serries. It is sure to leave the reader wondering what will happen with Raven, Alexander and their friends in the next book!

Follow 16 year old Raven as she develops a deep love for the new guy in town. Mysterious and sexy, Alexander moves into the creapiest house in the neighborhood....the same house that Raven has had an obsession with since her childhood. Will Raven be able to get past her friends and her towns beliefs that Alexanders family is vampires and fall in with them and run alexander and his family out of town or will she fall for this dark and sexy man!

poohbritt avatar reviewed Vampire Kisses (Vampire Kisses, Bk 1) on + 37 more book reviews
For me it was a quick read, and kinda cheesy. But for teenagers, I can see this being a big hit. Raven, who lives in Dullsille, USA, (Her word for the town she lives in.)wanted to be a vampire when she grows up. Then there are these new neighbors that have the town's feather's ruffled. They don't come out in the daylight, except for their butler, and they've moved in the town's stero-typical haunted mansion. Needless to say, Raven explores to look for some Vampire Kisses!

Warning, this a series, so there's a cliff-hanger. So I'd go ahead and get the 2nd book. "Coffin Kisses."

This book is funny. Raven is 16 and is obsess with vampires and their Gothic style. She falls head over hills on her new neighbor Alexander. Her parents are the cool hippies.

Oh my gosh......Ive just finished this book, and I have soooo many things I would love to say about how UNBELIEVABLY PERFECTLY AWESOME, TRAGIC, LOVABLE, THE BEST OF THE BEST, on and on and on with how fantastic this diamond is....I am not kidding when I say this, Ive read about 50 books so far this year and thousands in the years before this one book. I will say confidently and whole heartily that this is the best book I have EVER read. Really? YES!!
I spent hours reading this, I could NOT put it down, I dared anything to make me stop.

Oh my, everything Ive ever wanted in a vampire, gothic book was all inside this one. I am thrilled there are more books after this one, I will start book 2 in a few moments. This could have been a movie. Ive been Goth for a long time, and this was perfect. I felt like I was finally home in the world of reading. Best book EVER!
