This book is written in the world of John Ringo's Black Tide Rising. It covers the very beginning of the zombie plague in great detail especially how it impacted New York City and the banking industry. It has a ton of detail on banking security which is at the very least chilling.
The author (clearly not John Ringo though his name graces the cover) uses characters from Ringo's novel mixed with an interesting variety of new ones. I particularly enjoyed the veiled references to the Ghost series, a novel of how that group coped with the plague would be fascinating.
However, I must admit that I was severely disappointed in this novel. It did not flow nearly as well as Ringo's, there was much less action. Even Faith, one of my favorite characters was flat. I have inhaled this entire series, once sitting in B&N all day reading one of the books and was so excited to see a new book in the series that I ordered it the next day. I had trouble getting through it. Not sure if I will even read another book by this collaboration unless I can be sure that Ringo will put more of his stamp on it. I certainly won't pay first-run hardcover prices!
