Although Fern Michaels front-loaded this old bodice ripper with genuine WTF and outrageous moments (lesbianism, whipping, rape, etc), the story as a whole is a solid love triangle between Valentina and two brothers - one a Saracen and the other a type of mystic who tries to be neutral in the interests of peace during the Second Crusade.
