A Christian classic. Each day Chambers gives us a brief Bible verse and then takes us to a surprisingly deep and personal place as he meditates on that thought. If you are at all interested in knowing God better, you will be glad you found this book. Classy leatherette cover, too.

I can only say that every Christian who is serious about following the Lord needs to become familiar with "Ozzie". He can be hard on you, but he is always right, sometimes funny, never condemning. He's one of those I'm eager to meet in Glory. He has a large following, and you can always tell a believer who has been influenced by him - they're the ones who have a certain "something" about them that you can't quite put your finger on, but you're attracted to them.

Gathered from Chamber's sermons by his wife, I wish I could thank her personally. In my opinion, this is THE best devotional book of all time -- deeply grounded in God's truth and full of invaluable insights from a life devoted to God's glory. I have been using my now dog-eared, coffee-stained copy for years ... no longer daily but, at the very least, weekly. There is rarely a morning when I open it that God does not speak to me big time. I have quoted Oswald for years in my Bible studies and teachings. He is notorious for urging one higher and higher in one's Christian walk until one can honestly proclaim from the depths of one's heart, "My utmost, Lord, for your highest!"

This is a very challenging daily devotional. It is definitely for the maturing Christian; no milk for babies in this book! I'm almost nervous to read each day's entry as many are very convicting and really cause you to look at yourself and your relationship with the LORD. I can see why this book is such a classic.

Oswald Chambers, a Scotsman who converted to Christianity in his teens under the ministry of Charles Spurgeon, has been affecting Christians with his devotional words since My Utmost for His Highest was first published in 1935. This acknowledged classic contains 365 daily readings that take heady doctrine and make it practical, realistic, and intensely personal. With humor and humility, Chambers speaks plainly to the common man struggling with devotion to Christ in daily living. Worldly cares and self-serving desires begin to lose their appeal as Chambers aides the reader in transforming his mind by viewing life through the instruction of God's Word. Richard Halverson, former chaplain of the United States Senate, attests to this: "no book except the Bible has influenced my walk with Christ at such deep maturing levels." This is Chambers's chief desire, directing the reader to "shut out every other consideration and keep yourself before God for this one thing only--My Utmost for His Highest... determined to be absolutely and entirely for Him and for Him alone." --Jill Heatherly

This is an excellent book for a daily devotional. Especially for busy people who would like a quick read after prayer time. It is excellently written and give you a great deal to "chew on" during the day.
classic devotional with inspiring messages from scripture for everyday trials
An excellent devotional for those who love to read the Bible... Chambers offers a lot of wisdom and insight, with scriptural backing.

For nearly seventy-five years, countless millions of Christians the world over have trusted the spiritual companionship of Oswald Chambers's classic daily devotional, My Utmost for His Highest. These brief scripture-based readings-by turns comforting and challenging-will draw you into God's presence and form you as a disciple of the Risen Lord. You'll treasure their insight, still fresh and vital. And you'll discover what it means to offer God your very best for His greatest purpose-to truly offer Him your utmost for His highest.
I ordered this for someone who needed a daily reminder of God's encouraging Word, that would also teach him how to apply it to his life. I have this same "devotional", and know personally how edifying it is. Any work by Oswald Chambers is a treasure. I highly recommend this book ... if you could get your hands on a copy. RH
Blue leatherette binding.
I keep four books next to my reading chair: The Bible, The Finished Work of Christ, My Utmost for His Highest, A year with CS Lewis. All or any of which I give away to encourage a person to develop his/her relationship with Jesus Christ of Nazareth the Son of God, Author of creation, my Lord, my King and my Friend.
Originally published in 1936, this book is still being circulated among Christian circles. Chambers was a preacher, and this daily devotional was published posthumously, by his wife's diligent notes from the talks that he gave. There are lots of thought-provoking statements to any problems one might be facing in everyday life.
