"Uppity Women" are nothing more than STRONG WOMEN. Too bad that they're characterized as "uppity," but anyway...
This is a cool collection of blurbs (most are 2 pages) about STRONG WOMEN of North and South America in the 1600s (give or take a few decades), including some famous ones (like Pocahontas) and some not-so-famous ones. This book is great reading for girls so they can see that you can be STRONG without being afraid of it. I like to think of these as the ultimate girl power books (there are many in the series), showing how women can take on men's roles or just act differently than society says they should act. In this day and age, when girls are sometimes less-than-confident members of our world, having a book like this could really inspire them to greatness.
Not to say this is a "girl's book." Far from it. It's history, sociology, humor, anthropology, and feminism all in one, which makes it perfect for boys, girls, women, men, dogs, goldfish...whoever!
