First of all I love this series and this author, I always feel like I have to say that before I give a not so favorable review. 3 stars arent bad, but its not that great, either.
Larissa has been the personal assistant and masseuse to hunky ex-football star, Jack. Recently relocated to Fools Gold with Jacks business and partners, Larissa has embraced Fools Gold and its people. She and Jack have an interesting dynamic. Not only are they co-workers, they are charitable partners and best friends. They depend on each other for so much. They balance.
That is until Larissas mom comes to town and tells Jack that Larissa is in love with him. Suddenly these two are looking at each other in whole different light. Could Larissas mom be right? And what could that do to their already perfect relationship?
Since the beginning of this threesome of books, I have been eager for this story. I liked the glimpses of Jack and Larissa I have read previously and their story had real promise. Unfortunately the closer they got to their romance, the less they seemed like who they were. Their characters morphed into something I didnt really recognize. They both had their hang ups with the past but it got old real quick and the level of hurt and cruelty that was dished out, by multiple characters, to each other was ridiculous.
Basically what started off strong and had me excited took a detour and changed the way I felt about their story. Sure you get your happy ending, no surprise there, but its the conflict between Jack and Larissa, Jack and his ex and co-workers, that took this 5 star story down to a 3. Luckily the conflict was short-lived. Had I not had such high hopes, this may not have bothered me so much. Still a good story, just could have been better.
