I looked forward to reading this book and read it cover to cover in two days. I think I read at that speed because I was hoping the pace of the storyline would pick up. Baxter gives excruciating, minute details that I felt were insignificant for the story she wanted to tell. It is slow moving, and while yes, you do feel for her and her struggles, it didnt' seem as if she felt she had a part in creating any of them. When she stated that she understood Hedda Nussbaum (wife of convicted murderer Joel Steinberg) and why she (Nussbaum) stayed in her abusive marriage, I was appalled. Nowhere in Baxter's book did I read that she suffered the abuse that Nussbaum certainly did. Was she comparing herself with Nussbaum? It appreared that way to me. I did feel at times that she was making way more out of a situation than what it needed to be. Her mother wanted Baxter to call her Whitney from the time she was very young. My mother also wanted me to call her by her first name for the same reason Baxter's did. It never affected me negatively at all - certainly not enough to write a book about it. Baxter writes in one chapter that when making "Family" and shooting a scene with Kristy McNichol (whom she says she interacted with very little) she felt that she was giving it her all, and Kristy was just sitting on a swing and saying her lines. After she watched the taped scene, Baxter states that she realized how good Kristy was. Maybe that's what I'm thinking... maybe Meredith Baxter needs to watch a tape of her life and then perhaps she can see that there were some good things and good people there. We all need to take responsibility for our own behavior (good or bad) and when reading this I felt that while Meredith didn't have the best childhood, she certainly didn't have the worst, yet she is ready and willing to point fingers, just not at herself.

I enjoyed her book. I've always liked her as an actress, but didn't have any idea what her life was about. She's had a lot of struggles. I am glad she finally found happiness, it's just too bad it took so long.

Just finished and loved it. Once again I am reminded that we never know what someone's life is really like. All is not as it appears. I've always loved her as an actress and now respect her more.
