I wanted to learn more about the 20th C. subdivision and building boom in LA County, so this wasn't my cup of tea. But this is aimed at a popular audience and the author does an excellent job at telling a vast story.
I enjoyed reading of the Janss Bros. the most, but there are more stories of much more famous people. Mr. Gross is especially interested in the architecture of Beverly Hills and environs and shares his knowledge with readers. There are some photos. He talked to a great many people, from those descended from principals of the early 20th C. to the owner of Foods-4-Less (where almost no veterans of US military service are employed).
