I liked this book very much. It has very helpful ideas on understanding why Christmas can be so difficult and how we can make it into a much more satisfying holiday. It's like a workshop in a book on why and how Christmas has evolved into such commercialism and how we can better plan a holiday that will make us happy and not put us into debt.

1991 revised edition. With self-examination exercises & concrete ideas for putting results into practice, this book aims to help you return to the true spirit of Christmas through 5 focus points: giving gifts to those who truly need them, expressing love in more direct ways than gifts, examining holiday activities in light of your deepest values, being a peacemaker among family & friends, rededicating yourself to spiritual growth.
Very tired of the hectic "have-to's" of this beautiful holiday run amuck, I found the logic and ideas for changing how we spend Christmas very helpful & insightful.

A fast and relatively easy read. This book set off so many "ah ha" lights in my head. I've been simplfying our holiday season for years now, but there were some things in this book that I had never thought of before. Getting my hubby to help and also to be able to enjoy the season was one big goal. Putting the Christmas spirit back into the cash-cow that Christmas has become was another. And of course, making it special and wonderful and a great experience for my kids was the third... teaching them that it is not about the presents but the state of mind of what the holiday brings to you and those you love.
