Not a bad book, but the title and cover are a bit misleading. The hero is a thief taker, and the heroine is a penniless companion who has been falsely accused of theft. This book is connected to the others in the Regency "Silk & Scandal" series, each book being written by a different author but with some of the same characters and background story, but you can definitely read it as a stand-alone.

A Keeper! My first McPhee book; definitely not my last. I loved this story and her writing.

First, this was an enjoyable, exciting read, and a great continuation, and progression, of the Silk & Scandal series. Second, I really liked the uniqueness of the storyline, with the hero being a "thief-taker", sort of like a modern-day bounty hunter. I'd never heard of those before.

Both the lead characters were immediately drawn to each other physically, but neither wanted to be. The author handled their budding attraction, and deepening emotions, deftly and I'm so glad I was introduced to a new author whose backlist I can now search out and devour!
