Part of the Jazz Age Mystery series, set in the roaring twenties.

From the back:
"A time when the music was bolder and the personalities brighter. From speakeasies to the bohemian scene, follow Bedford Green, a man-about-town who rubs elbows with high and low society, dabbles in art dealing, and mingles with crime ...

Bedford Green has received and invitation to join the Vanderbilt's estate in Newport - but the artful art dealer sense an ulterior motive. In truth, his hostess wants the latest gossip on an alleged member of the Hungarian nobility, the Countess Zala. But when Green and his assistant Sloane arrive, no further mention is made of the countess. All questions are politely sidestepped - even when some midnight skinny-dipping reveals a dead body that matches the countess's description. Could it be, Bedford wonders, that the rich and famous won't let a little murder get in the way of their good fun?"

Awww, not so much. Loved the first mystery in this series which of course was set in Paris. This was a little long-winded and I could have done without the countless back and forth to Newport for no good reason other than filling up pages. (Do you suppose the publisher said turn in so many pages?) The ending comes out of nowhere and it doesn't even give you some "red herrings" to possibly try to figure it out. Not even going to try the third book. Too long, too scattered, too boring, yes I said that.
