Recently, I purchased two of Cynthia Hickey's books at the same time (AN UNCONVENTIONAL LADY and IN A TEXAS RANGER'S ARMS). Both were published in 2014. They are both Harvey's Girls stories, from a very different slant. I read the ranger story first and loved it; I really didn't even like the premise of this story.

Annie Rollins lives near the Grand Canyon of Arizona and dreams of taking the family boardinghouse to greater heights. However, the Fred Harvey Company has opened El Tovar in town and is leaving the Rollins Boardinghouse in the dust. One of Annie's great ideas for increasing trade is to offer 3-night trips down the canyon. Annie's mother takes the idea but hires an outdoorsman (Dallas Baker) to lead the trips.

Annie considers herself a modern woman (eye-roll) and is bitter that her mother didn't let her lead the canyon trips. Instead, Mrs. Rollins, a widow, gets a job for her daughter at El Tovar as a Harvey Girl (that didn't seem likely).

The author did a fine job with the plot but I really wasn't interested in the storyline at all. I felt that all I could give this story was a G+.
