I wish I liked this book more. I liked the premise quite a lot, but found the execution to be long and rambling. Mostly, I felt like everything was rather vague - even the villain - you never really knew who he was, or why he was so evil, or even the true nature of the evil. It was all very vague to me, whereas with other books, the characters, their worlds, even their enemies, are drawn very clearly. I wanted to care more more about everything that was happening, but I just didn't. I'm a big fan of urban fantasy and paranormal.

This is the first book I just may go on to the next to see if the characters develop better. I have found this to be true of several books I have read and gone on to read 7 or 8 in the series.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next installment in the series. The only thing that set me off about this novel was that it clearly seemed to be a male writing a female lead character. It just seemed to be missing something. Still, the action was good, the universe it was set in was interesting, and the supporting characters drew you in. All in all, a very good effort!

M.L.N. Hanover's "Black Sun's Daughter" series is well written science fiction with more of an emphasis on the people in the story than the "spirits;" their interactions create the reason to read this and the rest of the series.

If you like books about spirits and demons with a bit of magic thrown in you'll love this book. This is a new series that I for one will be following as I found myself hardly able to put this book down. Hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Wow that was intense with a totally new twist on demon possession. Jayne (Zha-nay) is a misplaced woman. She is estranged from her family, totally broke and a college drop-out who comes into serious cash and trouble when her uncle mysteriously dies. This is a coming of age novel. Jayne has powers she is unaware of that simply manifest when she is in trouble. The plot is the usual, serious bad-ass out to kill heroine, heroine has friends who can help, someone gets seriously injured, pissed-off heroine ups the ante and starts taking scalps. The difference is that Jayne has stepped into something that takes the reader a while to get hold of. The scenario is complex and the scientific reasonings are valid but hard to understand. I really loved Ex (Xavier) and Midian...what great characters. Jayne has created a terrific group of warriors and the next adventure aught to be as exciting and interesting as this one. What a great start to the Black Sun's Daughter series!
