I wasn't certain about buying this book. Due to the comparisons, I was afraid that it would be wordy and overblown, than I care to read, it is not. Pacing is excellent, characters are well fleshed, story is character driven. There is mystery and a bit of suspense, what there is not is flowery love story. Story spans 25 yrs. I did not want to put it down and did not want it to end. Well done first book,hopefully Mcloughlin has more stories to tell.
