This is a fun read-aloud for 5 - 7 year olds. Written by the author of "Goodnight, Moon" and "The Runaway Bunny," the rhythmic choice of words mimics the chug-chug-chugging movement of the two trains, one of them a toy and the other a full-sized "real" train. For additional visual fun and to encourage attention to detail, ask children what things are similar about the illustrated surroundings of the two trains.

A wonderful story of 2 trains: one real, one play, weaving their way through their landscape. Any child who enjoys trains will enjoy this book.

This is an adorable book, with great illustrations and sweet rhythmic text. My toddler loves it, and it's very easy to read. There is plenty to talk about in the illustrations,as well.

My son is learning a little about comparasin as we talk about the "big streamlined train" and his journey to the west (on the steelcrossbars, in the rainstorms, up the mountains, etc.), versus the "little old train" and his journey to the west (over the kitchen counter, through the bathroom, up the stairs, etc)

My favorite part, though, has to be the text. It is beautifully written, and as you read it you the words combine to sound like the "chugga, chugga, hiss" of a train driving down the tracks. It's a fun quick read, and we will be keeping it on our bookshelf.
