Two books in one--

Boy's Life: great story centering around an eleven-year-old boy living in rural Alabama in the Sixties. One morning, he and his father witness a car drive off into a lake. However, this was no accident... the driver was already murdered. I loved this book!!!!

Gone South -- a darker tale of a Vietnam vet who kills a man and then runs off to hide in the Louisiana bayous. He meets a young woman who is in search of a faith healer. They set off on a journey together that leads them both to some pretty dark places where they must face their pasts. A darker read than "Boy's Life", but a good tale.

Boy's Life was one chapter too long in my opinion. Other than that, it was good. I couldn't get into Gone South.

Boy's life is a classic growing up story for those of us who loved our bikes, our friends, the woods, scary movies of the
50,s etc etc. Growing up is scary in itself, which McCammon writes so well in this book. You'll enjoy Gone South, as it takes all its characters on a journey from nowhere to somewhere. Great great books!!
