I've been looking forward to this book since I heard it was coming out. Now that I read it, I'm glad, but it will seriously make me look at the rest of the series in a new light.
This should be read AFTER you've read the whole rest of the series (Daughter of the Blood through Shalador's Lady). Reading it in any other order will not make sense and will spoil a lot of things for you.

Thought at first this was just another collection of short stories that were on the theme of family. It turned into a much more in-depth thread of stories on fatherhood, siblings, children, death, and rebirth.

I would only recommend reading this book after reading ALL the other books in the series in order. There are parts of these stories that refer back to events in other books, dating back to the earliest childhood of Jaenelle and her time with Saeten, up to the recent events in the Spooky House. Characters that were minor at those time become much more important.

I got the same feeling as the other reviewers, this made me want to go back and re-read the whole series now from start to present. I'm not sure if this is the finish of the series, but for an anthology, it felt much more satisfying than any other set of short stories.

Must read! For people that didn't like the bitchiness of the other books, this was also more toned down due to the presence of kids in many scenes and was much more heart warming/funny.

Another awesome addition to the Black Jewels. To say any more would ruin your reading. And it's definitely a keeper!

This is a short story collection, like Dreams Made Flesh, so some of the stories are better than others. But I have to say, I cried when I read the High Lord's Daughter and it's my favorite of the collection. Next is Shades of Honor, then Family and last is Winsol Gifts.
I'm a fan of the Dark Jewels series, so I've followed all these characters in their adventures for many years. I hope Anne Bishop will continue to write stories in this world!
