Pierce Waverly was abandoned by his parents at the age of eight. He was collected from boarding school by relatives where he stayed on holidays. Now he is the Earl of Devonmont, and he has received a message from his mother's companion, Camilla Stuart, asking him to come quickly because his mother is ill. Camilla is determined to bridge the gap between mother and son, even if she has to lie to do it. She grew up in an orphanage and knows what its like to not have parents. She wonders why Pierce would deny himself a mother who clearly loves him. But neither mother or son will budge on their relationship, or divulge the secrets that keep them apart.
Pierce was introduced in The Hellions of Halstead Hall series. I was happy to see this character finally got his own book. Pierce grew up not understanding why his parents would not let him come home. He became a rake, doing things to get his name in the newspaper to try to embarrass his family. Camilla is a widow with a young son. She is the companion to Lady Devonmont and considers her a friend. She just wants to heal the rift between mother and son, and is surprised when Pierce turns out to be a warm, caring man who does not know why he was abandoned.
Usually it's very easy to figure out the big secret in this type of book, but Sabrina Jeffries had me stumped and wondering why a mother who clearly loved her son would suddenly decide to never contact him again. I was actually surprised by the answer. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

I have to say that I haven't read a bad Sabrina Jeffries book. This was a fun ride, I loved the two strong women and how they chose to make life fun. The chemistry between the two main characters is fun, electric and sizzles quite alot. Story moves at a great pace, you won't be able to put it down. One of those that you stay up all night to read or forget to start dinner!
