The first in the second Chronicles of Amber series. Merlin, the son of the hero Corwin, finds himself drawn into the troublesome politics of Amber he has tried to avoid. This is a decent book, but you have to be a fan of the series to really get everything that is coming at you.
A newer style sci-fi book.
Again, my first comment is a complaint about the omnibus edition. Since there is no description of each individual novel, the start of this book was QUITE confusing. It, like the books preceding it, is in the first person. However, rather than following Corwin's story, the focus has shifted to Merlin, Corwin's son. Not that this book wasn't exciting and fun in its own right, it was just a rather abrupt (and not to mention confusing!) turn of events. But the cliffhangers are back and the start of this new plot is pretty interesting.
This is the story of a sorcerer who lives as a computer designer on the shadow world of earth. When he is called urgently back to Amber he discovers a tragic death and another person has been wounded, both by guns which are not supposed to operate on this world. As he tries to return to the Shadow world of earth he encounters many attempts on his life and must detour to many strange world where the attempts continue. Good read but it only enforced the thought that I should read the earlier novels about Amber as this is the sixth book.
You mean there's more than one of them?!? Egad.
