I really enjoyed this book. I only read it so that I would have the background for "At First Sight," which was also excellent. It's a must read for the background, but it's also enjoyable. What I didn't particularly enjoy was the supernatural element.

Nicholas Sparks books are like cheesecake: sweet and fluffy, satisfying, and hard not to devour in one sitting. True Believer is the story of Jeremy Marsh, a cynical New York writer who makes his living debunking supernatural phenomena. As the story opens, Jeremy is headed to Boone Creek, South Carolina to investigate mysterious lights that appear in the small towns historic cemetery. There, he encounters all sorts of amusing southern stereotypes: a talk-your-ear-off gas station attendant, a motel filled with stuffed forest critters, and a mayor overflowing with southern hospitality. What Jeremy doesnt expect is the sassy, worldly town librarian, Lexie Darnell. As he comes closer to solving the mystery of the cemetery lights, Jeremy begins to dread the day hell have to return to New York and leave Lexie.

This is a breeze to read, perfect for making a bus commute fly by. The dialogue between Jeremy and Lexie is fun and snappy, and although the conclusion of the book is predictable, there are a few surprises along the way.

I enjoyed reading "True Believer". Sure, there was no great tragedy, but it's a nice read when you're not in the mood for a tearjerker. I thought the book had good character development, in that I cared what happened to the lovers of the story.

If you're looking for an easy read romantic story with a little mystery thrown in, this is your book.

I did not enjoy reading this book. I was surprised that it took me so long to finish the book. I just could not get into it. I read about 3/4s of the book and then gave up and skimmed through the rest of the book. Not what I was expecting for Nicholas Sparks.

Jeremy Marsh looks for the logic and science behind the supernatural, and has made it a career to shed light on the supernatural. When accepting an assignment to investigate apparitions in North Carolina, he stumbles into a test of his beliefs and his faith.

A born skeptic, he travels to the small town of Boone Creek, North Carolina, determined to find the real cause behind the ghostly apparitions that appear in the town's cemetery. What he doesn't plan on, however, is falling hopelessly in love with Lexie Darnell, granddaughter of the town psychic. Amazing love story, one of Nicholas Sparks' best books. I totally recommend this book to anyone and everyone who believes in love. Sparks is an incredible writer, if you are a person who likes to be be engulfed in the book you are reading, than I suggested this book and any of Nicholas Sparks' books.

This was more of love story than anything, which did get a little monotonous. I found the ghost mystery more interesting but was a little disappointed with the outcome....I thought it was going to be more exciting.

This is my time reading a book by Nicholas Sparks, I've always enjoyed his movies; A Walk to Remember and The Notebook. I had a sleepless night last night and went from page 33 to page 333 finally looking at the clock and seeing that it was 4:30 in the morning. I ended up having to force myself to get some sleep to get up for work in three hours and almost ended up being late because I wanted to finish the ending so badly.

So glad I did, I really connected with the character of Lexie because I'm like that too, where I would push away the man I loved in order to protect my heart from further dissapointment and while I haven't found my Jeremy yet I am "true believer" that I someday will. This was a lovely book even if sometimes a bit predictible but we wouldn't be satisifed if it wasn't.

No heavy reading here, just a relaxing weekend book. The characters were likeable and the townspeople are entertaining, but I would have liked more details about the legend and the "ghosts". Not as memorable as some of his other books.

Nicholas Sparks has a good mind for love story's but I am not fond of his way of writing. He has a tendency to drag out the boring insignificate parts and not the more romantic parts. This story was nice, but not what I would call a real pageturner.

Jeremy Marsh is the ultimate young New Yorker: handsome, almost always dressed in black, and part of the media elite. An expert on debunking the supernatural with a regular column in "Scientific America", he's just made his first appearance on national TV. When he receives a letter from the tiny town of Boone Creek, North Carolina, about ghostly lights that appear in a legend-shrouded cemetary, he can't resist going down to investigate. Here, in this tightly knit community, Lexie Darnell runs the town's library, just as her mother did before the accident that left Lexie an orphan. Disappointed by past relationships, including one that lured her away from home, she is sure of one thing: her future is in Boone Creek, close to her grandmother and all the other people she loves. Jeremy expects to spend a quick week in "the sticks" before speeding back to the city. But from the moment he sets eyes on Lexie, he is intrigued and attracted to this beautiful woman who speaks with a soft drawl and confounding honesty. And Lexie, while hesitating to trust this outsider, finds herself thinking of Jeremy more than she cares to admit. Now, if they are to be together, Jeremy Marsh must make a difficult choice: return to the life he knows, or do something he's never done before - take a giant leap of faith.

This Book starts off kinda slow in New York But it takes a turn for the better and it was one of the better books i have read and i think that if your into the mushy fairy tail romance that every girl dreams about than this is the book for you. I hope you like it as much as i did. :)
reading-galore avatar reviewed True Believer on + 115 more book reviews
This book failed to fulfill expectations in so many categories that it's hard to know where to begin. Passion doesn't come through the pages until 75% of the book has been read, making for an extremely boring read. Even the promise of meeting ghosts in a cemetery isn't spooky enough to hold your interest as the characters venture back to the cemetery multiple times. Towards the end, it's hard to feel anything but agreement with the television producers when there is no interest in Jeremy's project about the town. By the end of the story, I was so finished with Lexie and her emotional weakness that I could care less what happened to her which was probably not what the author intended.

Delightful, detailed and fun.

About the author: Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors: one can count on him to deliver a great story along the lines of a Hallmark movie, consistently good, enjoyable and fun. The only drawback to his books is that they are very much along the lines of boy meets girl, girl doesn't like boy, and boy overcomes girl's concerns. So read his books with time between them, and they won't run together.

Do you need to read in order? Each book (so far) stands on its own so you can read them in any order

Triggers: As I said, like a hall mark movie

New Yorker meets the Southern Girl, science writer meets psychic phenomena. Sparks is able to describe hidden North Carolina in detail, you almost think you are there. He is able to describe the people in a small town, there relationships, how life moves, and the geography.
