Third book in the Lucy Stone series. With four kids, Lucy struggles just to stay awake as she is also puzzled with the fires blazing up around town. When a fire kills a friend, Lucy is determined to find the arson. But, of course, she finds herself a little "close to the fire" than necessary!

Excellent 3rd book in the series. Lucy has just delivered Zoe, her fourth, so she is very busy with her, but it is Halloween time, and she is also busy with helping get her other children ready with costumes and cleaning up an old house to prepare for Tinkers Cove annual party. That in itself should keep any new mom occupied. But with Lucy, you also have to throw in a few mysteries to solve; a murder, a rash of arsons, and you have a really hard to put down novel. Great!

Lucy Stone is the mom to 4 kids and has a natural curiosity that seems to throw her right into the middle of an arson investigation. Someone in the historical town of Tinker's Cove, Maine, is burning down old homes. One of the fires kills someone, a friend of the Stone family. Living in an old home herself, Lucy can't help but worry, and in between planning for a huge Halloween bash for the town and taking care of her family, Lucy decides to get to the bottom of it. The only problem is, she is being watched by the arsonist, who is not happy with her meddling. Cute book with a decent mystery.

3rd in the Lucy Stone mystery series
Haunted-house parties and ghostly galas. Grinning pumpkins, mayhem and murder. It's going to be one heck of a Halloween for Lucy Stone and Tinker's Cove...
It's October in Maine, and everyone in Tinker's Cove is preparing for the annual Halloween festival. While Lucy Stone is whipping up orange-frosted cupcakes, recycling tutus for her daughters' Halloween costumes, helping her son with his pre-teen rebellion, and breast-feeding her brand-new baby, an arsonist is loose in Tinker's Cove. When the latest fire claims the life of the owner of the town's oldest house, arson turns into murder.

While the townsfolk work to transform a dilapidated mansion into a haunted house for the All-Ghouls festival, the hunt for the culprit heats up. Trick-or-treat turns deadly as a little digging in all the wrong places puts Lucy too close to a shocking discovery that could send all her best-laid plans up in smoke...

One of my favorite authors. Love to read one of these 'cozies' in between two more intense murder mysteries.

Lucy Stone is always a good read. The characters are plausible, as are the plots.

This is the first Lucy Stone book I've read. I plan to read more in this fun series with interesting descriptions of a small town in Maine and family activities for the area. Halloween theme is a major part of the mystery.

Very well written, not even half way through, I decided that I had to get all of the books in this series. For such a small book, 256 pages, it packed a punch that left me feeling as though Id read a 400 pager.
This was a real page turner and its been a while since I said that. Written back in 1997, I felt this author was way ahead of her time. It felt modern somehow.
There was only one small thing that got on my nerves. It was the repeated mention of breast feeding. A lot of detail was put into "nursing" as opposed to any other subject (except for the mystery itself). As each chapter arrived, here would come the boob again. Pulled her boob out here, there and everywhere and descriptions about it. I was like, "Come on already, why do we need to know this each time in such a detailed way"?
I do recommend this book, just skim the milk boobie talk.
