Just finished this book- VERY reluctantly. A great story, with a wonderfully written tortured hero and a heroine that is so likable! Add to that a tense mystery involving arson, murder and a very satisfying conclusion. No wonder I didn't want it to end! Luckily, there are more stories coming from the Firefighters of Station Five. Can't wait!

3.5 stars. This book was an enjoyable read. I found myself sometimes wandering but overall, good story. The mystery was not a hard one to solve. Not a mind blowing debut for a new writer (Check out my Meredith Duran Review), but I do want to read more about the firefighters of Sugarland, and will pick up more books by Jo Davis. The difference with this author and an auto-buy author is in the way a story is told. An auto-buy author that SHOWS you the story, Jo Davis told it. Not all writers can achieve that, I know. The writing didnt flow smoothly in the beginning, but I felt it improve towards the end of the book. This book has a very tortured hero and loves scenes that may make you blush. Zacks story comes out in May 2009. Zack hasnt done the deed yet, so it will be a great story to read.

this was a good story, but I couldn't resolve the disconnect with the hero character. At times he was sweet and gave the appearance of being mild-mannered; every once in a while his alpha dog was barking and it just didn't fit for some reason.

For the most part I liked the book. There were certain parts that I did not like but overall it was not bad. Howard is a good hero, but his interaction with a past person didn't sit well with me. I felt bad for Kat when it happened. Who the villan was pretty easy to figure out about halfway through the book. Really like Kat, she was good for Howard and the story had a good ending.
Read Zach's book first and it was so much better.

Good book....not great, but a good weekend read. I enjoyed getting to know the side characters for future books in the series. Reminded me a lot of a JoAnn Ross book that came out a couple years ago.

Howard Paxton is an amazing person - sweet, sensitive, caring, hero, firefighter. He is an emotionally wounded (wrecked) hero though. A thoroughly horrible childhood left him with nightmares and repressed memories. Now someone is out to kill him and everyone he cares about.

It was lust at first sight when he spotted Kat McKenna at a fire. He wants to fall in love with Kat but is terrified his past will hold him back and totally disgust Kat. This is a heartwrenching love story and a terrific start to the Station Five series. Firemen have always been my heroes and to have a well-written series devoted to them. Yummy!
