This book featured Charlotte as much as Thomas as the action alternated between them both, Thomas in France, and Charlotte in Ireland, both try to discover evil against the British government. Subversives have contrived to mislead Thomas into a chase to France, and to have his boss at Special Branch, Narraway, removed from his position for theft and fraud. Charlotte, acting as Narraway's sister goes to Ireland to track down the missing money as old enmities are rekindled. Thomas is barely one step ahead of assassins who would complete the job of removing both him and his boss from Special Branch. This book promoted Charlotte's grace and intelligence and clever wit in detective mode, as well as Thomas' efforts to prevent subversion and to help clearn his boss' name. A darned good read.

Anne Perry is the consummate mystery writer! Even after 26 Thomas and Charlotte Pitt mysteries, the spark is still strong, the twists and turns still too good to figure out and the thread that ties it all together, the love story between Thomas and Charlotte, is still just as endearing and true as it was from the first. "Treason at Lisson Grove" triumphs in the face of all those who believe a series must have a natural arc then gracefully retire. If an author is as gifted as is Ms. Perry, the characters as beloved as the Pitts and the story lines as intriguing as "Treason.." readers will be delighted to cozy up until every last murder is solved and traitor is caught!

The three-year hiatus was worth the wait! This has to be one of Perry's finest Charlotte and Thomas Pitt novels. Perry introduces a new depth to familiar characters, has us traversing Western Europe, and cleverly entwines history within the story.

Special Branch must foil an internationl plot, but they have to do it without Victor Narraway and Thomas Pitt. Pitt chases the assassin of his would-be informant to France's northwest coast. Narraway, dismissed for embezzlement, travels to Ireland hoping to discover who betrayed him. Meanwhile, Charlotte takes great risks to save her family.

Will Special Branch survive? Will the British realm endure? Can Narraway recover his job? Can Pitt save his job? Will this be the end of Charlotte and Thomas Pitt? Only time and subtle sleuthing will tell.
