Author Laura Beers needs to work on her dialogue. It is awful. Much of it is stilted and unedifying (we don't learn much about the characters from their dialogue, except that Nathaniel Calvert has a huge ego problem). For Nathaniel to state that he would resolve the issue in one day was ridiculous. He comes across as an arrogant snob.

Dinah was no better; I found her awful. She was immature, stubborn (to the point of stupidity), and thoughtless. The redundancy in this story was annoying. When Dinah accosted Nathaniel (thinking him to be a Bow Street Runner) and told him about her missing sister, he NATURALLY thought his case and the missing woman were related. Really? What a bunch of twaddle.

How did they come to love each other? That is still my question from this book. There was no chemistry between them, and I doubted Nathaniel's intelligence when he fell for Dinah. Will I try another book by this author? No. There just wasn't enough positive about this story to want to read another.
