I was under the impression when I read this book that is was the actual journal of George Shannon. It didn't occur to me that it also said 'novel'.
This book is BASED on the author's family history, but not actual journals from what I can tell by the author's note at the end of the book.
Despite all of that it was an interesting read and I really enjoyed it.
