What shines through in this book is a honest, real person who loves herself and others despite major flaws and imperfections.

What an excellent book! Anne Lamott's faith journey takes the most unexpected twists and turns and in spite of it all she believes...and she includes all of her early life that defines who she is as an adult. I love her sense of humor and want to read more books by this lady.

I love Anne Lamott's non-fiction. She's smart, funny, and can laugh at serious subjects, herself most of all. She's a delight!

Love, love, love this book! In fact, I may have to read it again just for the "laugh out loud" passages. Lamott strips her soul absolutely bare and tells it all in a way that makes you want her for your best friend. I'd share a pew with her anyday.

Anne Lamott is brilliantly vulnerable and uproariously funny in this collection of personal essays/memoirs on faith and her belief in God.

Though I prefer her fiction (which is less Jesus-y), Anne Lamott can make anything seem human and funny. I still find myself referring to a really irksome person as someone who could "make Jesus Christ drink gin straight out of the cat dish."

Reading this book made me an Anne Lamott fan for life. I've read her other, more recent books, and keep a copy of Traveling Mercies handy (still my favorite) for when I'm feeling low and need a lift. Her stories bring sympathy and humor.

This book was not at all what I expected! Anne Lamott holds nothing back in her memoir-like chronicle of her faith and how she relies on it to get her through the challenges that life throws her way. She has had a very interesting life so far, and she writes with wit and grace and a bit of vulgarity to make her point. I truly loved her description of how she thinks God must smell (I won't give it away) and her loving recollections of the many characters she has met in her very interesting and bohemian life! I fell in love with a couple of the people in her life. There were definitely some poignant moments and times when I recognized myself or someone I know and love in the people in her life. I'd highly recommend this book!

This is a funny, well-written, and sometimes heart wrenching group of essays about the glimpses of grace the author has seen throughout her tumultuous life.

She's a little too liberal in some things for me, but in general this is a thought-provoking, sometimes even comforting book.

Annie Lamott at her best. This is Lamott's quirky chronical of her own trip of faith and spirituality. She IS a Christian, and she doesn't take herself too seriously.

With an exuberant mix of passion, insight, and humor, Anne Lamott takes us on a journey through her often troubled past to illuminate her devout but quirky walk of faith. Whether writing about her family or her dreadlocks, sick children or old friends, the most religious women of her church or the men she's dated, Lamott reveals the hard-won wisdom gathered along her path to connectedness and liberaton.

A wonderful collection of Anne Lamott's essays, particularly dealing with her struggles with self-image and raising a child on her own, and how her relationship with God and religion helped her in the process.

Frequently funny, she is always serious. It certainly helped me with the process of dealing with my own self-image.

This book is very meaningful. I first read Anne Lamott's advice on writing, and that led me to her writing on parenthood and faith. She is smart, unconventional and thought-provoking--exactly what I want in a memoir.

Beautiful book; inspiring and humorous. Who knew a book on faith could spur a belly laugh? Lamott's irreverence makes this book all the more readable and all the more inspiring.

I honestly had to push myself to read this whole book. Yes Ms. Lamott is very good at writing interesting and descriptive fun things. She is a great writer. My problem is that despite the wonderful work that the Lord has obviously done on her life, she did not mention that anything she had done or that those around her were into was sin. . it just seemed like she was condoning too much in order to draw people in. She can definitely be used to inspire those who are looking for faith, yes, but at the same time I had a hard time reading things due to my personal knowledge of the Bible and scriptures. I can certainly see that the Lord is still working hard on her, and that she has a relationship with God, and so that made me happy. It just wasn't the right book for me to read. I am too into apologetic and theological studies (and using one's experience to even talk about those things).
