I enjoyed the book. The previous reviewer must not have read the foreword where the author gives tribute to the 39 SOE women in the field between May 1941 and Sept 1944, 12 of whom were murdered by the Germans following capture. I believe that when you read the book and realize these women were remarkable, the book honors them.
Most of the story is very rushed, clipped, and unless you've never read about spies, be they women or men, in World War II, dull. I am not sure what the author meant to tell the reader about this young woman. Empty? Brittle? Brave? Suicidal? It is never really clear. SPOILER ALERT kind of: It has one of those endings you get to guess what might have happened next. I think its fairly obvious what happens next but who knows?
