An enjoyable space opera. A heroine somewhat akin to Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan, though less frenetic. The characters are perhaps slightly flat, but I liked it enough to immediately order the next in the series.

The first of the Kylara Vatta series. Ky finds her life heading
in directions she didn't expect and rises to the occasion. As in
life, however, that may not be enough for a happy ending.

Very entertaining, I'll be picking up volume two.

A young woman from a wealthy trading company explores her own self's worth and tries to figure out what to do with her life. From naval academy disgrace, no fault of her own, to captain of one of her father's derelict spaceships, this very capable young woman is slowly finding her true self. It's a good introductory novel for this new and somewhat unique character. It's an easy read and not too heavy on the tech side of sc-fi. I gave it a 3 out of 5 stars. Worth reading but I haven't decided if I want to continue with the series. I like Moon but I don't think that this was up to her usual high standards.

The Vatta series by Elizabeth Moon is one of my all time favorites. Tightly written, lots of action and some great characters.

While the primary characters are young and competent, I love how Moon portrays older characters, especially "Aunt Grace" who is not as dotty as she first appears.

A great read and good start to a great series. I read the entire series I would love more stories with these characters.

This is a wonderful Space Soap Opera with 5 books, and a strong female lead. I enjoyed the first book the best, and went with Kindle for the immediate gratification of reading the next 4 books.
