A horribly researched, factually inaccurate book. I can't remember ever doing this before, but I quit reading it halfway through and actually threw it in the garbage rather than give it to someone else. Don't waste your time.

Very interesting yet frightening subject matter. If everything in the book about the food/beef industry is true, it's a wonder people don't get sick more often.
I felt compassion for the characters in the story, but much of what Dr. Reggis did in attempt to expose the culprits seemed incredible. Who would risk their life and narrowly escape a hitman so many times?

I liked this story by Robin Cook. It was different from most of his books. It is quite disgusting and frightening to read about the beef industry. It makes me want to become a vegetarian.
This book is a grim, shocking tale of contamination in the meat industry. It is probably the most socially significant novel I have ever read. It really opened my eyes. Unfortunately, it will probably be a long time before I will get up the courage to eat another hamburger.

Definitely makes you reconsider running out for a burger and fries!! I always like a mystery with emphasis on the medical field. This one is all of that as well as a fascinating look into today's beef industry.
This books promised to be a good one from the start. It is not one of his better efforts but it was an interesting read. I will say that since I read the book I think twice when I eat hamburger.
Dr Reggis takes his daughter, Becky, out for burgers and fries one night. The following week Becky becomes ill from E.Coli. Dr Reggis enlists the help of his ex-wife and an idealistic USDA inspector and investigates how this could happen. What he finds just might kill him and everyone around him.
Loved this book. Bacterial contamination by Dr. Robin Cook, grad of Columbia University Medical School & post grad training at Harvard...nobody could tell this tale better..also author of Chromosome 6 & Contagion & others.

I really enjoyed reading this book.
This book is great, but definitely not for those of you who get nauseated by slaughterhouse descriptions. Given the recent meat recalls, I'd highly recommend this book to everyone, it's a fantastic fiction (that could really happen) novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat...and really make you re-consider eating that hamburger!!! It kind of reminds me a bit of "the jungle" only more exciting, and more relevant to today's society. The basic plot: Doctor takes daughter for hamburger, Daughter gets E-Coli and dies: doctor goes undercover at meat plant that manufactured the frozen hamburger patties and discovers the disgusting conditions and use of downer cows: Doctor's life is threatened by the owner of the packing facility and goes on the run, all while trying to expose the company. Really, it is truly fascinating! I highly recommend it.
