A tongue-in-cheek (yet accurate) guide to the stock cliches of fantasy fiction.

This is a cute, silly, and somewhat humorous A-Z guide to Fantasyland. It covers all of the most common events and characters that you'll find in any fantasy novel. It isn't great, but is definitely fun to flip through.

Amusing, but not as funny or insightful as it could be.

A humorous yet insightful dictionary of fantasyland. Interested in the history of elves? Need to understand the rules of the mountain pass? You'll find the answers here.

I decided to read this book when I saw it referred to in a column by a editor at Tor Books, and I foud it to be a lot of fun. It's a very irreverent look at all the people, places, objects and situations that are written into fantasy novels and stories over and over.

I've also found it to be very useful. I like to write fantasy stories for fun, and my rule is that if it's in this book, I either don't use it at all or make sure to really screw with it until it doesn't fit the cliche.
