This is my second book by Laurie King. I enjoyed it even though it occasionally seemed to go on and on. She weaves a good tale and the end was surprising to me. A good book to read.

Eight years after WWI, Bennett Grey's life remains shattered from an injury that left with a sensitivity to the emotions of others, turning him into a human lie detector. The British government wants to use him as their secret weapon, but he's gone into hiding, until an American Bureau of Investigations agent shows up hot on the trail of a British terrorist who's been working the US as well. Laurie King turns in a well researched novel of Britain post WWI and the labour movement geared to ending the aristocracy. Some want it to be a bloodless coup, some think only blood will make people pay attention.

Laurie R. King is one of the best writers I've ever come across. Her historical fiction is complex, accurate and still engaging and suspenseful.

I really enjoyed this book. I have read a great deal of Laurie King's books and this one is a bit different from previous works of hers, in my opinion. Her ability to convey the image and smell of things remains top notch, but this book goes way beyond that and really gave me a feel for the main character on a level I hadn't experienced with her other works. It was a wild ride and very, very enjoyable.
