A highly detailed and descriptive book. The mini-series on t.v. several years ago did do the book justice. But it's a must read for King fans and for all those interested in otherworldly matters. Scary but thought-provoking too.

An older King novel...good..but drags a few times...not my favorite King novel. Long story... 747 pages...maybe that was my problem with it...too much for me to take in as I read it over time.

Great book. Early King is considered by many to be the best he has ever done. Yes, this one is a little rough compared to some of his later stuff but the characters draw you in like you wouldn't believe. Mr. King creates characters that are so alive that I would swear that I know them, or know of them at the very least. These characters are like that, even the dog! You feel for them, you empathize and you sympathize. This is a very well done book and a nice blend of horror and science fiction for those of us who enjoy both.

I really enjoyed this book up to the half way point. Then it just became TOO long and TOO dragged out. Don't get me wrong, I love long books, and I respect authors who are willing to commit so much to one story. I just felt the end was detail by detail that I didn't really need to know or care about. One thing I love about Stephen King is his character and backstory development. He really makes the reader care about the characters and get a feel for the story. So even though there was about 300 pages I felt dragged on, I wanted to finish because I really wanted to know what happened at the end. This was just an average King book for me.
Complex, full of intrigue and incredibly satisfying, Tommyknockers is one of Stephen King's best efforts. I've read this book over and over, and each time I find something new to love about it. If you're looking for a book that you can really sink into and lose yourself in, pick up a Stephen King book - the longer the book, the better it is. This took me about a month to get through. Not because it's boring but because it made me kind of afraid to go to sleep. Just a wee bit creepy. Ok, maybe it's a lot creepy. It was great besides the fact that it gave me nightmares. The beginning drags just a little bit but once you get through the first and second chapters it starts to pick up.
Yet another mammoth horror novel from King, this dark tale depicts a small town's fatal encounter with creatures from outer space. Events start with Roberta Anderson, a writer of Old West novels, unearthing a flying saucer on her remote wooded property. Five hundred pages later alcoholic poet Jim Gardener, Roberts's former English teacher, finds himself aboard the flying saucer in outer space. In the interval the creatures (Tommyknockers) destroy the citizenry of Haven, Maine. While this is not one of King's more original novels, it does have plenty of blood and guts, macabre humor, and a well-wrought realization of the New England countryside.
Steven King does it again with this spine-chilling novel. The definition of a tommyknocker is " ghosts which haunt deserted mines or caves, or b. tunneling ogres.
If you\'re a Stephen King fan, you have to read it sooner or later. I was among the later, and I wasn\'t disappointed.
This is probably my favorite Stephen King novel; despite its flaws, it has a quirky charm that grabs you. I've probably read this book 20 times since I first read it in 1989. Has King written better books? Sure, but I'll always think fondly of Haven.

I like reading kings books but this one was just a little too far out there for my taste...I will read more but probably not right away I think I need a mini-vacation from king for awhile..
An apparent space ship that crashed into earth is wreaking havoc on the woman whose property it is on, and her drunk friend who doesn't want to lose her. Good book.
