I gave up on this book after only a couple of chapters. It's so obvious it's a ripoff of the movie. The characters are almost the same: A young woman from a rich family who is to be married to a nice boring young man in New York, but falls in love with a young penniless artist. The only real difference is that their names are different and there seems to be another little plotline with some of the lower-class passengers.

We all know how the story end, but this novel makes the journey to that end compelling and heartfelt.

Everyone thought the R.M.S. Titanic could never sink. But when it struck a huge iceberg just before midnight on April 14, 1912, the helpless passengers found out they were wrong.

Beautiful Elizabeth Farr and dashing Max Whittaker is first class... Brian and Patrick Kelleher and pretty red-haired Kathleen Mahoney in steerage... Everyone is face with biting cold and churning black waters, tilting lifeboats and pathetic screams. Some will live, but more than fifteen hundred will die on that disastrous night. Will Elizabeth, Max and Kathleen be among the surviviors?

I really enjoyed the book. Diane Hoh got a few of the details wrong but it doesn't distract from the storyline. Very quick read. I felt myself comparing it to the movie "Titanic" but she did incorporate some real people into her main characters so that was refreshing to see. Recommended if you are a Titanic buff like I am.
